NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) is a nonprofit global wilderness school that aims to help form the next generation of leaders. It was set up in the USA almost 60 years ago. They have had a program in India for the last 25 years, and have partnered with us for the last few years.
This year, NOLS partnered again with the Vrikshalaya Centre to offer students a 4-week course Himalayan Cultural Expedition (HCE). This course, based at the center in Majkhali, has been an integral part of the participant experience since the inception of HCE.
This year, 9 students were here at the center, in the month of May. They took part in village activities, learning how a resilient community farms, tends livestock and the forest, and experience everyday life together with different village communities. Precious time was also spent with their families around the kitchen wood fire stove, chit-chatting and learning about the local Indian cuisine. Daily yoga lessons were an important aspect of the journey.
